One Thousand Hour Check Up
Hull #1 had a great opportunity to stop in Washington North Carolina at Roger Brooks boatyard to have the first Eastport 32 ever build checked out after 1000 hrs of engine service!! The boat had spent the winter in the Florida Keys and then on its journey north she did the Miami boatshow, was race committee boat for the Farr 40 circuit, then race committee boat at Charleston race week. When she got to the boatyard in North Carolina all the staff were keen to see how she had fared since leaving the factory more than 4 years earlier. having done 3 tours in the Florida Keys and 2 trips to New England and countless trips around the Chesapeake Bay, the intial rection was that she looked great as Dick and Nick have taken great care of her. So with some gel coat nicks and new caulking here and there, a Compound, buff and wax on the hull sides and a fresh coat of bottom paint she looks like new. I am particularly impressed with the Flag Blue hull sides which look great all waxed up and shiny. Here are a couple of shots from the trip up. Leaving the Florida Keys
Somewhere in the Carolina's:
The thing to notice is the crisp clean caulk job on the tailgate, one of the cosmetic touch ups the boys at Brooke Boatworks did. Nice work!!
Also nice to see dick Neville ran the boat all the way from Key West to Annapolis with no problems, other than a bit of a thumping in the lower Chesapeake Bay, I am told conditions were nice the whole way up.
At 3000 RPM the Volvo Penta D3 190 HP engines push the boat at about 22kts with a fuel burn of 9.2 gallons per hour (2.39nm/gal)...Sweet

The adventures of 'Croc Dundee'
This Eastport 32 has had a fun winter in South Florida, serving as race committee at Key West Race week in January, then as show boat at the Miami boatshow, Race Committee for the Farr 40 event in Miami then some RnR at Lighthouse Point, then another race committee stint in Charleston for the fabulous event there and now returned home to the factory in NC for a little pampering and TLC before returning to the Chesapeake Bay.

Light Tackle fishing

Eastport 32 owners Nick Shuck and Dave Wood joined Tom Weaver for a day of light tackle striper fishing around the remote Tangier and Smith Islands in the Chesapeake bay. Guide Kevin Josenhans took us to all the special spots when the tides were right for the group to catch and release upwards of 50 fish, keeping a couple for the supper table. A fantastic day with schooling Dolphins and diving pelicans.

Postcard from the Bahamas
I brought Gandy Dancer back yesterday with Brad and my father. If you can believe the trip across the Bahamas Bank was about like our first three hours going over. We went from one squall to another. The boat was just great. We hammered thru the 3 to 4 at 25 kms per hour pretty nicely. The radar and auto were great. Once we got past West End it was a lake the rest of the way.
Tom, we love the boat. It was everything we wanted. It changed our Bahamas experience. We were out most days til past six pm having got started at the crack of noon. The boat sips fuel, handled like a dream, and turned heads wherever we traveled. We did not do a night out, but will. Brad had a great trip with his family and his kids loved the boat and the cabin (read dollhouse). We did not do any fishing - so we have something to look forward to in the future.

Sea Trials
Wow what a wonderful boatshow, with some great weather the turn out was fantastic and we are now setting up for sea trials. Bear in mind the lead time for a boat is four months from Mold date and with orders in the works this can lead to a backlog of six months, so consider checking in with us soon for a boat in the North East for Spring delivery.

Fascinating
In this months SOUNDINGS magazine (May 2011 issue) in an interview with Donald Blount, the guru of high speed power boat design and engineering, named the Eastport 32 as a "fascinating boat" when posed the question about favorite designs by other designers, high praise indeed! Thank you Donald.

Living The Dream
My job is to sell "The Dream", I design and build boats so you can get out on the water and explore, socialize, fish and generally relax. otherwise known as Living The Dream.

Now I take my job seriously, so much so that I am constantly researching because Living The Dream has no boundaries. I am toiling to making the experience for my clients better, be it re-visiting a waterfront bar (to sample the fare) or helping to catch a world record fish (I try every time I am on the water and I know it will happen one day). I still sail occasionally (just to get back to my roots), I creek cruise often with friends, I cruise with my wife, I regularly take an Eastport to boatshows (that is fun too), I personally maintain and update a worldwide network of marine industry professionals and boatyard managers (It takes a lot of beer but they are always there to assist an Eastport 32 owner) and mostly I just goof around on an Eastport 32 (all in the name of research!)
I am pretty sure I get on a boat about 300+ days a year, some times to tweak or service something and others just to sit and look around to see what we could do better but mostly to get out on the water and learn a little more. All in all Living The Dream is not easy and selling it is pretty tough too. So in 2011 I resolve to do all this even better and spread the word more! Yes that does mean more waterfront bars, bigger fish etc. So it is going the be a heck of a busy year Living The Dream Eastport Yacht Company Style, as we have boats in the USA, Europe and Australia. But someone has to do it! Come and see for yourself, I will be happy to show you around.....Tom
